Palahala Camp, Katavi
Located in Katavi National Park, Palahala Camp is a perfect opportunity to experience a wildlife-rich, wonderfully tourist-free part of Africa. Katavi is a remote park in southwest Tanzania, home to more hippos and crocs than anywhere else in Africa. Palahala, "sable antelope" in Swahili, sits on the banks of the Kapapa River. Katavi reputedly has a higher concentration of mammals than any other reserve in Tanzania. African wild bush at its best.
Palahala Camp Accommodation
Palahala Camp has eight spacious tents. Each tent is furnished with king-size beds, the finest linens, goose down quilts, and verandahs that overlook the bush and river. Each tent has en-suite bathrooms. Old-fashioned hurricane lamps light your way for your short walk from the Camp's main tent.
Palahala Camp Activities
Open-sided, customized bush vehicles are available for sunrise game drives. guests can have bush breakfasts while enjoying game drives. In the late afternoon, a game drive or a guided walk might end with the popular "sundowner" on the banks of the Kapapa.
Large herds of hippos, eland, sable and roam antelopes are commonplace in Katavi.During the dry season, the river's floodplains are a haven for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, lion and hyena. Hundreds of elephants and several herds of 1000-plus buffalo can gather at one time in this area aptly called, "Paradise." Close by, guests can view rare birds of prey, spoonbills and Sacred Ibis and up to 20 different types of herons and egrets, ostrich and pelicans.
