THE GREATEST MIGRATION OF MAMMALS IN THE WORLD -SOUTH SUDAN
As water sources dry up after the seasonal rains, and then again when the seasonal rains return, enormous herds of animals migrate in Boma National Park, Southern Sudan. It is estimated that the migration is far greater than the famous migration of the Serengeti, where nearly 2,000,000 animals search for grazing.

In Southern Sudan, as in the Serengeti, the migration takes place all year, it is a slow movement dependant on the grass and the rains, however we have chosen May and then November as times when the major movements take place. In May the animals are moving from North to South, from the Sudd flood plains back into Boma National Park, because the rains will have started. In November the animals are moving from South to North as the dry season is well under way and the animals are searching for grass. In November the white-eared kob will be calving as they migrate north into the Sudd flood plain. The major migrating species involved are: white-eared Kob antelope, Tiang Antelope, and Mongalla Gazelle.

The base of operations for this safari will be the town of Juba in May and in November the headquarters of Boma National Park. Here there is an airstrip that our cessna caravan, will refuel and tie down. In May we base at Juba using the Bedouin Lodge (the roads are too muddy to negotiate in May, but in November we can base out of the park headquarters.
From the park headquarters we will enter the park by vehicle to view wildlife based upon GPS locations provided by the aircraft crews.

All participantrs in the safari will have opportunities to fly over Boma National Park spotting animals, helping plot GPS locations and figuring out the best route for the ground vehicles to reach the migrating animals.
A comfortable mobile safari camp will be set-up the Boma National Park Headquarters in November, with tents, cots, tables, chairs, mobile kitchen with a cook creating 3 meals per day and baking fresh bread, shower, latrine, laundry, cold drinks, kerosene laterns, small generator to recharge camera batteries. In May we base out of the Bedouin Lodge in Juba.
The tribal people in the area are the Murle, Anyuah and Toposa. There will be many opportunities to visit them and view how they have retained their traditional dress, housing, adornment, tools, religious beliefs.
