A mere two-hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg and ten minutes from Sun City, lies a place of breathtaking beauty and serenity.
A place called Bakubung Bush Lodge. Concealed in the rich expanses of the malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park, Bakubung, or "People of the Hippo", offers guests everything they need to get in touch with the bush.

Bakubung offers 76 beautifully appointed air-conditioned, thatched roof studio rooms and 66 time-share chalets that curve in a horse-shoe around the Hippo pool. All rooms are decorated in an African theme with all the modern conveniences to ensure your stay with us is comfortable and memorable.

Our studio rooms either have two double beds or one king size bed, en suite bathroom, icluding a shower, air conditioner, direct dial telephone, tea/coffe machine, colour TV(with DStv bouquet), a hairdryer, plug for electric shaver and internet connetivity.
All hotel rooms have doors leading onto either a balcony or a patio, and have panoramic views of the Park and the Hippo Pool.

There are 66 time share owned chalets (affiliated to RCI and awarded Golden Crown status since inception), beautifully situated in a horse shoe around the Hippo Pool, with two bedrooms (one twin, one double), two bathrooms, a separate lounge/dining area, full kitchen facilities, a direct-dialling telephone, a colour TV with DStv bouquet, a hairdryer and a plug for electric shavers.
There is also a sleeper couch in the lounge. These are perfect for larger families who want to experience the wild beauty of African in comfort and style.

The Pilanesberg mountains, in which Bakubung Bush Lodge is situated, offers guests sightings of a wide diversity of animal and plant life. This includes 360 species of birds, the Big Five and many other South African animals. .
The Park exists within the transition zone between the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld vegetation, commonly referred to as "Bushveld". Unlike any other large park, unique overlaps of mammals, birds and vegetation occur because of this transition zone.
Springbok, brown hyena, the red eyed bulbul, and camel thorn trees usually found in arid areas are found cohabiting with moist-area-limited impala, black eyed bulbul and Cape chestnut trees.
The Park has a rich array of southern African wildlife including the Big Five and many of the animal species found in southern Africa. These include lions, elephants, white and black rhinos, buffaloes, leopards, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles.
The diversity of bird life is excellent with in excess of 360 species. Though some are migrants, many are permanent inhabitants. Their food sources vary with some eating carrion or live prey, while others eat seeds, fruit or tiny water organisms.
