Built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler, this has to be one of the grandest examples of colonial architecture in the country which is a unique hosted property with half of Kenya’s history bottled up in it! Set in the middle of the 5000 acre commercial farm at 6000 ft. on the lower slopes of Londiani Mountain, it has a forest and bamboo shrouded volcano, on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley.

The house is run by Tristan and Cindy Voorspuy who are well known for their Offbeat riding safaris. Deloraine is their home and base for their safaris. There are 3 large double rooms with their own bathrooms in the main house with 2 extra rooms for families that have to share bathrooms.

There are also 3 double rooms with their own bathrooms in the cottage adjacent to the house. All meals are taken in the dining room and guests are expected to be part of the family in a house party atmosphere.

There are children and dogs in the family too. The gardens are magnificent, boasting a croquet lawn, tennis court and swimming pool. There are eighty horses on the farm and although some are used for safaris, there always plenty of polo ponies to ride - the farm and the mountain providing more than adequate countryside to explore. Deloraine is situated on the western side of the Rift Valley at Rongai, ten minutes off the main Nakuru-Kericho road, and is ideally situated for safaris coming from the east of the Rift Valley on their way to the Masai Mara. Lakes Nakuru, Bogoria and Baringo are within easy reach and a day spent on the farm is never wasted.

One, two or three night stays are recommended as it is a unique experience to sample a bit of colonial history during a safari to East Africa. Many British Royalty have stayed, including the Queen Mother and the Duchess of York, when a young bride. And indeed, Lord Scott's niece Alice married the Duke of Gloucester, grandson of King George V.

During you’re your time at Deloraine we highly recommend you take a half or full day trip to Lake Nakuru National Park which covers an area of 188 km2 and is world famous for its spectacular flamingos. The park also has rhinos.
