Kizingo is a secluded private beach resort, situated two degrees south of the Equator on the island of Lamu, off the coast of Kenya.
Lamu town, an historic Swahili trading port, is renowned for its beautifully carved doors, tall buildings of coral rock and decorative plasterwork. The Swahili House museum, the history
museum and the fort are all interesting places to visit.
Kizingo is strongly committed to conservation, ecologically sound practices and a symbiotic relationship with the local community.
We used the knowledge and expertise of the local artisans to construct the bandas at Kizingo. They are built of local
materials such as mangrove poles, star palm leaves and coconut palms.
There are only 8 very spacious bandas, with shaded balconies and views over the Indian ocean.
Each has a large double bed romantically draped with mosquito
netting. The en-suite bathroom is well appointed with toilet, hot water shower, wash basin and dressing area.
Kizingo chefs prepare delicious lunches and dinners in the restaurant using the freshest local produce. Seafood is
the speciality: red snapper, crab and lobster are served with locally-grown vegetables and salads.
From November to April Kizingo offers guided snorkelling trips to a small coral island called Kinyika. Here is the chance of swimming with wild dolphins, entertaining and amusing
them with our attempts to emulate them.
Explore the 12 kilometre beach, safe swimming in the sea and great relaxation.
All year: Cycling on mainland; bird and bush walks; visits to Lamu Town and local community.
Kuzi Monsoon (May to October).
Fishing – creek. Deep sea fishing can be arranged and with luck, hump back whales may be sighted.
Kaskazi Monsoon (November to April): Swimming with dolphins; beach fishing with fly rods; course fishing; deep-sea and creek; snorkeling; scuba diving can also be arranged.
