HARAR – BALE - SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA ROUTE “OMO VALLEY”, QUEEN SHEBA TOURS:

The South of Ethiopia is famous for its wildlife resources and the natural beauty of the territory, splendid landscapes, protected endemic species, a kaleidoscope of ethnic groups speaking over 50 languages who are deeply imbued in natural traditions. The National Park is home to an amazing range of wildlife: Oryx, Antelopes, Zebras, Gazelles, Buffalos and Elephants. Along the rivers it is very easy to see enormous Nile crocodiles and Hippopotamus. The People of the Southern Territory, markets, colors all are the unspoiled nature.

Must see: the National Parks- Abjiata-Shalla, Nechisar, Mago, and Omo. In Omo Valley you will visit the tribes with impressive tourist attraction and natural traditions: Mursi, Hamer, Karo Galeb, Bume and Borana tribes.

When to visit the OMO Valley: The best period to visit the Southern part of Ethiopia is from August to April/May. The rainy season starts in April/May and sometimes roads are flooded and impossible to diver even for 4WD cars.

The North of Ethiopia is one of the most remarkable areas in the country for history and art. It offers testimony of the glorious past of the first Christian African country and its powerful Empire, which dates back thousands of years. Its amazing monuments, its precious treasures, its wonderful frescos, through the boundless landscapes crossed by both, rivers and deep gorges, will lead the tourist through a very special experience.

Must see Axum: the origin of Ethiopia and Christianity with full of palaces, obelisks and fortresses. Lalibela: eleven monolithic rock-hewn churches carved form a solid rock with a very artistic over 800 years ago; their beauty and artistic and architectural accomplishment make them “the eighth wonder of the world”. Bahir Dar: Blue Nile’s majestic waterfalls and Tana Lake which has 37 islands hosting ancient Coptic monasteries rich in wonderful frescos. Gondar: Royal castles, memories of an imperial era, and churches with magnificent wall paintings.

ITINERARY FOR HARAR – BALE - SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA ROUTE “OMO VALLEY”, QUEEN SHEBA TOURS for 26 NIGHTS

Day 1. Arrive Addis Ababa and transfer to hotel.

Day 2. City tour Addis Ababa, the National museum (not on Mondays), Entoto Mountains for views and Trinity Cathedral, Markato Africa’s biggest open market. O.N. hotel.

Day 3. Morning flight to Dire Dawa city tour and afternoon drive to Harar and in the evening visit the Hyena man who feed hyena with his mouth and overnight in Hara hotel.

Day 4. Visit the walled city of Harar the typical Adere people houses, the markets places, Mosques, the French
poet Rimbaud's old house, the basket production, Harari people culture, en-rout visit the famous pilgrimage site
dedicated to Kulubi St. Gebreal monastery and drive to Awash for overnight Genet hotel.

Day 5. Morning visit Awash National Park for wild animals and the Awash water fall and drive to Bale via Nazereth for overnight in Bale.

Day 6. Early in the morning leave your hotel for the Senete Plateau which is 4,000 meters above sea level, covered with Afro-Alpine plants. The plateau is also home of the endemic red fox back to Dinsho the headquarters of the Bale Mountain National Park, Overnight in a lodge.

Day 7. Morning visit the park for the best chance to observe most of the characteristic fauna and flora of the park which is well known for the endemic mountain Nayala, the Menlike's bushbuck and 16 endemic birds and drive to Wendogent for overnight in a hotel.

Day 8. Driving to Arbaminch, in Amharic meaning 40 springs. Admire very interesting views and the Wolayta people, their villages, culture, the cultivation of the false banana tree and more. Afternoon drive to Chencha, to visit the Dorze people, their particular weaving works for which they are famous, strange houses and Overnight Tourist hotel Arba Minch.

Day 9. Morning visit make a boat trip on Chamo Lake, admire crocodiles and hippos (here crocodiles are some of the longest in Africa, with a length of 6 meters & above) and drive to Konso people and village, culture and drive to Turmi en-rout visit Erbore people and villages were they have very colorful hairstyles, way of dressing and living quite peculiar. Overnight Turmi Tourist hotel.

Day 10. Visit Hamer people, their villages, possibly some dances, and more. If coincides we can see the unique marriage ceremonies, with women slashing, bull jumping and more. If the day you arrive is Monday or Saturday admire the very colorful markets of the Hamer, Karo and Dassanech tribes respectively at Turmi or Dimeka villages. These tribes are famous for their hairstyles, ornaments, scarification, culture and more. Overnight Turmi Tourist hotel.

Day 11. Drive to Omorate, at bank of Omo River, to admire the Dassanech villages and drive to the Karo people and villages. Visit Kortcho village, with very nice views over Omo River and Overnight Turmi Tourist hotel.

Day 12. Drive Jinka en-rout visit Benna and Tsemay people village and culture. If it is a market days you can visit very colorful ones on the way. Overnight Orit hotel Jinka.

Day 13. Drive through the Mago National Park to visit the Mursi people and villages. Admire these tribes. Where for beauty women use to put clay plates into their lips, men have different scarification and more particularities, visit their way of life in the villages and drive back to Jinka visit the Museum. Overnight Orit hotel Jinka.

Day 14. Drive to Sodo en-route visit Ari people village and culture and overnight Bekele Molla Hotel.

Day 15.Drive to Addis Ababa en-rout visit the Great Rift Valley lakes of Abyata Shalla, pass through Lake Langano, Zeway which are rich in birds, such as pelicans, flamingoes, storks and more and overnight Addis Ababa.

Day 16. Drive to Kombolcha through Sendafa – Debresina and overnight Komblocha Tekle Hotel.

Day 17. Drive to Lalibela en-rout visit Bati and proceed to Woldia and overnight Lalibela Hotel.

Day 18. After breakfast visit the two group of churches of Lalibela which is described as the “New Jerusalem”. The then-renowned King Lalibela with his tenants excavated the astonishing eleven rock-hewn churches from the pink granite bedrock of Roha Mountain in the 12th century. The churches are divided into two groups characterizing the location of River Jordan and are interconnected by underground tunnels. Now Lalibela is classified as the eighth wonder of the world and protected by UNESCO. It is considered a holy shrine city by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church followers and the rock-hewn churches are still places of active worship. Overnight Lal Hotel.

Day 19. Excursion tour to visit the impressive cave church of Yemerhane Kirstos. Overnight Lal Hotel.

Day 20. Drive to Mekelle Emba Alagea, Ashenge lake and overnight Mekelle Hotel.

Day 21. Drive to Axum en-route visit Tigray rock hewn churches of Abreha Wa Atsbeha church, Wekro Cherkos church and visit 7th century Debre Damo Monastery that is on top of the mountain climbing by the help of rope & only visit by men. You can visit the church’s murals and Hermits spiritual living system and visit 3 B.C. ruins of Yeha temple, which is the oldest in Africa and visit Abna Hafsa Church which is one of the oldest church and pass through the great scenic view Chain Mountains of Adwa where the famous battle filed with the Italians and overnight Soloda hotel Adwa or Arc Hotel Axum.

Day 22. Visit the Archaeological museum of Axum, the famous stele park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the
church of St. Mary of Zion which is believed to be the last resting place of the original Ark of the Covenant, the
palace and tomb of King Kaleb and Gebre Meskel (6th Century AD), and the ruin palace of the Queen of Sheba
(9th Century BC) and Maishum /Bath of Queen of Sheba/ and Overnight Arc Hotel Axum.

Day 23. Drive to Debark through Tekaza River and Lemalimo and overnight Debark hotel.

Day 24. Morning visit the Semien National Park and drive to Gonder overnight Quara hotel.

Day 25. After breakfast sightseeing of King Fassiledes Royal Palaces, King Fassiledes open-air Bath, and Debre Berhan Selassie church with its 10th century impressive paintings and after lunch drive to Bahir Dar for overnight at Ethio Star hotel.

Day 26. Morning an excursion to Lake Tana to visit the island monasteries of Ura Kidane Mihret and Azwa Mariam(14th Century AD) and drive 32 km to visit the famous Blue Nile Falls which is locally known as Tis Issat – “Smoke of Fire”. and late afternoon fly back to Addis Ababa and dinner Ethiopian traditional restaurant to test the verities of Ethiopian Cuisines and traditional dances from different ethnic groups and overnight Kaleb hotel.

Day 27. Free leisure time and shopping and transfer to the Airport in the evening for departure.
